
Janet Kerby is a National Board Certified Teacher in Career and Technical Education specializing in broadcast journalism. Her teaching certification also includes Language Arts. Currently at Roane County High School, Mrs. Kerby teaches English 9, Advanced Communications and Broadcast Journalism. Her students have provided programming, both live and taped, for a community access cable channel that originates 24/7 from the classroom. RCHS broadcasting students have won various regional and national awards, including the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award, the United Nations Foundation’s “Think Globally, Report Locally” competition, a regional Student Emmy and several from the Student Television Network. WSAZ News Channel 3 invited Mrs. Kerby and her students to submit the first student-produced work to be a regular feature on their web channel.
In addition to her teaching at Roane County High School, Mrs. Kerby is developing on-line teacher training for Kent State University that will be marketed nationwide to high school journalism teachers.
