Austin is one of the
state winners for the Bonnie Plant Company contest. This is a state-wide voluntary
activity for students. A cabbage plant is given for the student to take
home, plant, and cultivate. Austin planted his small cabbage plant last
April and harvested it in middle August. It measured 31 pounds and 52
inches round.
Austin reports, "These are the things I did to make it grow."
1. I left
it in the container it came in for a couple days and gave it artificial light
using a lamp.
2. I
talked to it.
3. I gave
it fertilizer.
4. I made
sure to keep it watered.
5. I
pulled the weeds around it to give it plenty of room to grow.
6. I put a
fence around it.
7. I tried
to keep the bugs off of it.
